Company History

Past

Corona Research originated on Corona Street in Denver, Colorado. Oddly enough, the company name did not originate from the street name.* The name came from the concept of a ring of light that can be seen around a luminous body like the sun or moon. A corona represents the "light" or knowledge that surrounds and illuminates an issue, which is our mission as an organization.

The first project in our inaugural year, 1999, was the field data collection of metro-area pricing for concessions sold at Denver International Airport. It was a good start, driving around the Denver metro area and gathering prices on dozens of items ranging from candy bars to fingernail clippers to beer. Since then Corona Research has traveled all over the country to conduct research or consult with clients that range from AAA Auto Club to the YMCA.

In 2001, the firm had outgrown its birthplace and moved into the Zang Mansion, a national historic landmark located in the Capitol Hill area of Denver, and a building recognized by the City of Denver as one of Denver's 27 "great landmarks."

With continued growth and success in 2002 and 2003 that has been recognized as spectacular by the greater business community**, we made our next jump to downtown Denver along the 16th Street Mall where we go about our daily business today. We have twice expanded our office space, which now includes our own focus group facility.

Present

Today, Corona’s portfolio of services has grown to include surveys, focus groups, demographic analysis, ethnographic research, and political polling, to name a few. While Corona Research maintains a generalist standpoint and we work across a variety of industries, we are also leaders in our field in certain industries ranging from healthcare, to education, to traffic safety research. We are the official market research and evaluation firm of the Colorado Nonprofit Association, we serve as the on-call research consultant for a non-profit national foundation for equal opportunity, and we are unofficially the "one-stop research shop" for several private-sector marketing, public relations, advertising, and communications firms.

Minority markets are another niche where Corona Research has excelled. Working with organizations as diverse as libraries, car manufacturers, and telephone directory services, Corona has helped these organizations tap into the fastest growing consumer segment in the U.S.-the Latino market. The African-American community is another niche where Corona Research has gained respect and trust, and we have conducted the largest surveys of African Americans ever conducted in Colorado.

Strategic consulting for non-profit organizations is another area where Corona Research has become a leader. After adding this practice area in 2000 when Karla Raines joined the firm, Corona has developed a four-tiered model where clients can receive strategic consulting anywhere from planning retreat facilitation all the way up to a three-year strategic business plan. We have worked with dozens of clients in this area, ranging from small, one-person organizations to large foundations.

Future

If the past eight years represent what's to come, the future looks very bright for Corona and our clients, as we continue to illuminate our clients and audiences with a corona of knowledge. In only eight years of existence, we have become one of the largest market research firms in the Rocky Mountain Region, and certainly the most successful. The next eight years are shaping up to be even better, if such a thing is possible.
